In 2007, HOCET, in partnership with Kujali International, co-founded the first free, private boarding school in Mkuranga, Tanzania. Now in its fourth year of operation, HOCET Secondary School (HSS) provides safe housing, healthcare, and quality education to 95 students from all over the country.
HSS also employs 13 local staff and features programs in small-scale horticulture, animal husbandry, fine arts, and entrepreneurship training. HOCET Secondary School is located on 300 acres of land in a rural, off-grid region of Tanzania whereonly 8% of households have access to clean water, and over 85% of residents are living on less than $1 per day.
Today, we’re working toward financial sustainability for HSS through innovative micro-business investments in Tanzania.
