Soon, HOCET hopes to launch the building of a high school at Mwakaleli. The school will be constructed in full collaboration with native people of the Mwakaleli valley living in Mwakaleli itself and also living abroad. Locals are very eager to see this school begin; their motivation being the increasing necessity of an Advanced Level Secondary School. Since there are no Advance Level Secondary Schools, many youth to stop schooling at ‘O’ Level education without having sufficient resources to meet their educational needs: Hence this is a very big problem for poor families in the region.

Already, Isange Ward has provided a 30 acre piece of land on which the school shall be built. At Mwakaleli, the plan is to start immediately with income generating activities so that from the beginning, the school will be self sustainable. We believe, in this area, that the best way to achieve this is through animal husbandry, particularly dairy cattle. Our aim is to start with 20 cows.

Like HOCET Secondary School, all income generating activities shall aim at teaching and training, nutrition improvements for students, and soil fertilization. The weather at Mwakaleli is suitable for multiple agricultural activities. The land is already fertile, and does not  require artificial methods to maintain it. The school will be built besides the Livingstone mountain ranges with their attractive greenish landscape. There are rivers flowing through out the year which will make the work of construction and agricultural activities easy.

The people of Mwakaleli are very kind, with a welcoming attitude which will make the construction of the school  easy. Regarding their willingness to participate in the building of the school, it is very easy to get their local contribution through availability of planks, stones, food for workers, and building expertise.
Already the government has made efforts to ensure that every ward throughout the country has its own ‘O’ Level Secondary School, despite some challenges facing the schools such as insufficient teaching and learning facilities. It is also true that in few years, many Form Four Graduates will not be able to find space in Advanced Level Schools and Vocational Training Colleges. Poor families are going to be affected greatly, and thats why HOCET as stakeholder to disadvantaged children has to proactively take action towards this challenge.

This is Mwakaleli; the place where we want to invest. the greenish, fertile and productive land and weather.
